Q: When people ask you what you like about Body Change and its
program, what do you tell them?
A: I always tell people that it is so do-able.
The program is do-able because you still get to eat, with many
choices. I tell people that it takes you back to ‘good ole shopping
skills’ We’re all about grabbing food out and on the run but this
program makes you plan, shop and prepare for your meals. In the
beginning it seems like a lot but
once you get the hang of it, it’s easy.
Q: What or who brought you to BC? What had you heard about the
program?
A: Like many others, I had tried almost
everything in town. I had lived on the protein bars and shakes
for awhile, but that was unrealistic, expensive and you still have
to feed the rest of the family.
I had tried various workout programs and even
trained and ran with a great local group of runners for 2 Indy Mini
Marathons. That still didn’t give me the weight loss results. So
when my membership ran out at a local gym I told my workout buddies
that I was going to go ‘see what he was about.’ I tried to get my
friends to join with me but they passed, for various reasons; money,
time, commitment, but one year later, they found their way here –
with their own results! It’s fun to have everyone here doing the
same thing and sharing each others progress as well as struggles.
Q: What keeps you at BC? What has been your favorite compliment?
A: Favorite compliment –One night I was waiting to
be seated at a local steakhouse, a waitress came to me with a beer.
I explained that I didn’t order it and she said that the young
bartender sent me the beer; I looked at him and smiled. When my
husband arrived he was confused to see me holding a beer – he knows
that I don’t even like the taste of it. You know I was smiling all
the way through the explanation! I was so surprised and flattered
that I actually drank it.
Q: What is your challenge with the program? How do you deal with
it?
A: My challenge – Eating. The bad news is that I
will always struggle but I know what to do now when I want to get
focused. And I love the results. The rest of the time I enjoy my
choices and live with the consequences. I always have Jim to remind
me it’s time to get focused and enjoy what I can do.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: Most proud of: I had great results in my 84 days
and even better ones doing our Survivor Challenges. But what I am
most proud of is that
I am still here. The commitment and longevity is what I am most
proud of.
Q: What do you want people to know about BC?
A: What I want people to know about me or Body
Change is that I have been blessed with a role at Body Change as
Photographer and Public Relations Director and I love sharing
everyone else’s story. Everyone comes here with a story, and I love
getting to know their strengths, struggles and challenges. I love
celebrating their progress and I get to do that through photographs
and group activities.
I think that everyone should celebrate their
health and fitness as it changes their emotional health – having
everyone else to enjoy it with is the biggest bonus of all. As
photographer, I am the one who takes the ‘dreaded before picture.’
As I tell those who are traumatized by the experience – “You have to
trust me. You will celebrate this picture someday!!” I honestly try
to make it as painless as possible. I even offer hugs to those who
look like they need something to get through the very brief
experience. I have heard it all and seen it all and that is what
makes it so much fun to celebrate when they have their own
testimonies to share someday!! Come join us – and plan on staying!
